Woke Rating

Jetstar isn’t particularly woke, whereas it’s parent company Qantas is woke.

Woke Summary

  • Virtue Signalling – no evidence of virtue signalling by Jetstar, but there is gender and cultural virtue signalling by parent company, Qantas.
  • Gender Ideology & LGBTQ – Jetstar Australia supports Melbourne’s annual queer arts and culture festival, including a special Rainbow Pride plane. Parent company Qantas has Rainbow policies, and is involved with many LGBTQI+ events and initiatives.
  • Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) – Jetstar has DEI policies and applies gender recruitment targets (although these are not strict requirements). Parent company Qantas, has much stricter and wide-ranging DEI targets.

Woke Policies

Wokeness and virtue signalling distracts a company from its core business, which is to make a profit for shareholders while delivering excellent, affordable products and services to its customers. Businesses should not be distracted from this core purpose, otherwise there will be unnecessary costs which are ultimately passed onto consumers. Woke ideologies are typically unfriendly towards the traditional family unit.

Here are some examples of Woke policies from Jetstar (including some examples from parent company, Qantas) …

Gender Ideology & LGBTQ+

Jetstar Australia supports Melbourne’s annual queer arts and culture festival, including a special Rainbow Pride plane.

In 2023, Jetstar’s parent company Qantas supported WorldPride in Sydney by launching a special Pride Flight to bring travellers from Los Angeles to Sydney to join LGBTQIA+ parties and events. qantas-pride-flight-world-pride-2023

Rainbow DEI policies of Qantas Group …

“We are proud to have a long-standing relationship with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, supporting the LGBTQI+ community, and playing an active role as a leading Australian organisation that supports equality. In 2023 in conjunction with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, we partnered with Sydney WorldPride.”

Climate Change

Through its parent company, Qantas, Jetstar fully supports the Paris Agreement, and has emissions reduction targets.

“At Qantas, we recognise that climate change is a significant issue for the aviation industry. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 25% by 2030 (from 2019 levels) and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.”

“We recognise human-induced climate change is a significant issue for the aviation industry. We are committed to supporting the aims of the Paris Climate Agreement to limit warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.”

“In 2019, we were one of the first airlines in the world to announce our commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and capping our net emissions at 2019 levels.  In March 2022, we announced new emission targets as part of our Group Climate Action Plan (CAP), including a 25 per cent reduction in net emissions from 2019 levels by 2030.”
