AA Insurance is a New Zealand-based joint venture between Vero Insurance New Zealand (68% ownership) and the New Zealand Automobile Association (NZAA) (32% ownership). Vero is part of the Australian Suncorp Group, while NZAA is a member-governed society. Since 1994, AA Insurance has offered home, contents, and car insurance in New Zealand, and in 2018, expanded to include small business insurance. They provide coverage against various financial risks, including those from natural disasters and climate-related events.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
A 2030 goal of the company is to ensure diversity and inclusion across all its functions and business areas.
In 2022, AA created a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, which is responsible for looking at organisational or policy changes to help support fair and diverse outcomes for various pockets of people within its organisation. Part of this work is the development of Employee Action Groups (EAGs) which are basically different subgroups of employees that fall within different categories such as ethnicity, sexuality to disability. For example, the rainbow community and Maori and Pasifika EAGs.
Climate Change
AA released its first Sustainability Report and Climate Statements in 2024 and is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain. Part of the company’s 2030 goals include the following climate related goals:
- Promoting information and ideas for our Members to first reduce their carbon footprint, and then improve their fuel and energy efficiency to offset any outstanding balance.
- Introduce a formal programme of reduced energy consumption including electricity emissions, travel emissions, transport emissions, and paper savings.
Positive Policies & Activities
- Certified as a workplace that advocates for homes, families and workplaces being Domestic Violence Free.
- Partners with Shine (a domestic violence specialist service) to provide a service offering for its employees.
- Supports flexible working, offer domestic violence leave, and promote our mental, physical, emotional and financial wellbeing programmes.
- AA has community partnerships with the Children’s Charity – the Variety and the Student Volunteer Army (SVA).
