2degrees

2degrees launched on 4 August 2009. 2degrees offers prepaid and pay-monthly mobile services, as well as fixed-line phone and broadband services. 2degrees is the third-largest wireless carrier in New Zealand. 2degrees is owned by Voyage Australia Pty Limited and is part of its Vocus Group. Until 1 June 2022, it was majority owned by US-based Trilogy International Partners.

“We’re a full-service telco connecting good sorts all around New Zealand. Innovating at every turn, our people in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch are here to make New Zealand a better place to live.”

Woke Rating

We rate 2degrees as moderately woke. 2degrees is definitely not as woke as Spark and One NZ, therefore it’s a better choice for conservatives.

Woke Summary

  • Virtue Signalling – some virtue signalling found.
  • Gender Ideology & LGBTQ – 2degrees is Rainbow Tick Certified, and supports organisations such as Rainbow Youth and Burnett Foundation (formerly NZ Aids Foundation). The company had Pronoun Education internally. 2degrees has its own Rainbow Heroes group.
  • Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) – has DEI policies.
  • Climate Change – Supports the Paris Agreement, and has emissions reduction targets.

Woke Policies

Virtue Signalling

Virtue signalling includes:

  • Pronoun education internally
  • Participation in Pink Shirt Day
  • Cultural virtue signalling

“In the late 90s, the New Zealand Government readied an auction of 3G radio spectrum rights. Realising the spectrum was taonga – defined as a treasured possession in Māori culture – a group of Māori visionaries led by Rangiaho Everton, gained the right to launch a mobile network in 1999.”

Gender Ideology & LGBTQ+

Rainbow Tick Accredited
“Taking pride in our stride. 2degrees is proud to announce it has achieved its Rainbow Tick Accreditation. This is an exciting step in the telco’s journey, and part of its purpose to fight for fair for Aotearoa.”

“I’m part of the 2degrees Rainbow Heroes team which we established in 2021, and in that time, we’ve organised Rainbow Youth clothing donation bins, held Pink Shirt Day fundraisers, packed sexual health packs for the Burnett Foundation (formerly NZ Aids Foundation), supported with pronoun education internally, and so much more. This is just the beginning, and it has been so rewarding to feel we’re making such a difference just by being 2degrees employees,” says Brynley McDonald from 2degrees Rainbow Heroes team.
