One NZ – Formerly Vodafone

One NZ (formerly Vodafone NZ), is the largest wireless carrier in New Zealand, accounting for 38% of the country’s mobile share market in 2021. One NZ was formed in 1998 as Vodafone New Zealand, after Vodafone purchased BellSouth’s New Zealand operations. The company employs over 3,000 people and has operations nationwide, with its main offices based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Between 2006 and 2009, Vodafone ran a series of advertisements and promotions which were found to be misleading and led to complaints – and eventually a series of large fines in 2011 and 2012 after action was taken by the Commerce Commission under the Fair Trading Act. Vodafone NZ issued an apology for this incident.

Woke Policies

Wokeness and virtue signalling distracts a company from its core business, which is to make a profit for shareholders while delivering excellent, affordable products and services to its customers. Businesses should not be distracted from this core purpose, otherwise there will be unnecessary costs which are ultimately passed onto consumers. Woke ideologies are typically unfriendly towards the traditional family unit.

Below are some woke policies and initiatives from One NZ…

Virtue Signalling

Plenty of virtue signalling throughout One NZ’s website and ad campaigns.

Cultural virtue signalling includes:

“Te Rourou is committed to creating an equitable Aotearoa for our rangatahi.”

Inclusion of Te Ao Māori into all aspects of business and operations…

“We’re committed to working with Māori organisations to enhance the future of Te Ao Māori, and we operate under our company-wide Honouring the principles of Te Tīriti o Waitangi policy, which has the key principles of: Kāwanatanga (honourable governance), Rangatiratanga (agency and self-determination), Ōritetanga (equity and participation), and Tikanga & Ritenga (the protection and adherence of Māori customs).”

Partnership with Pride

Participation at Big Gay Out
“Dane McIndoe, Procurement CoE Lead at One NZ, who also leads our Rainbow Whānau employee network, is hyped to be back at Big Gay Out. “Big Gay Out is a celebration of all the best parts of our rainbow community and being able to live the One NZ kaupapa for the first time at this festival is super exciting. There’s a lot of abhorrent legislation impacting the LGBTQI+ community internationally right now and it is events like these that remind the world that queer people are here to stay and we deserve to be treated the same as everybody else.”

One NZ has also been the official telecommunications sponsor of Big Gay Out. One NZ also supports other LGBTQ+ events such as the Wellington Pride Youth Ball and the Queenstown Winter Pride Festival.

Also in partnership with the Burnett Foundation (formerly New Zealand AIDS Foundation)

No TERFS
One NZ joined Spark in support of trans activist Shaneel Lal’s calls to cancel TERFS.

The term TERF means Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist and has become a derogatory slur towards women who follow the scientific defining of a woman.
